The Greenway Volunteers started in October 1974. The group’s activities have changed somewhat over the years, but not a lot. In the early years the volunteers assisted residents with personal assistance, such as writing letters or reading to those who weren’t able to enjoy those activities anymore.
They continue to raise funds for special projects or to provide prizes for various activities, such as bingo and bunco. They assist with church services and many special functions, including our Valentine’s Dance , Ice Cream Social, Pet Parade, various field trips and our Christmas party to name a few.
There is a men’s coffee every Thursday morning organized by volunteer John Hess. John points out that the agenda is unvarying: 1. Bragging, 2. Complaining, 3. Telling Lies and 4. Reminiscing.
Another favorite activity of the female residents is having their nails done every Wednesday morning.
The primary objective of the volunteers has never waivered, provide some comfort, joy and laughter to the residents at Greenway Manor.
